Week 4 RSS

I have heard about RSS Feeds before but had never used them or completely understood what they were so I guess this week I did actually learn something. RSS Feeds are great and I really enjoyed using them, as they said in the introductory video, why spend hours looking for news or information when you can get it sent to you at a central location, now all I have to do is remember to log in to look at my subscriptions. Once again with each thing we have done so far in this course, the so much information so little time definately comes into it. I can see how I could spend hours reading RSS Feeds I subscribe to and I can definately see how they would benifit not only us working in libraries but any profession and even for leisure. I subscribed to some of the examples and also a few I found myself on the Bloglines website in the top 1000 feeds subscribed to, I only got through the first 100 so I'm sure there would be many others that would interest me and be relevant to my job. I subscribed to the Powerhouse Picture of the Day(of course), The Shifted Librarian, Library Bytes, Librarians Internet Index, PC Magazine, New Urban Legends and Phrase a Week(very interesting). I also added an RSS feed to my Blog for "All Men are Liars" from the Sydney Morning Herald (Haha). Overall very enjoyable but never enough time to explore all the options.

You are right the trick with RSS feeds is to be selective. When you get them right they can save you time.
